Without a shadow of doubt, Royal Dornoch is one of Scotland's greatest golf courses,'possibly the best' according to Tom Watson. Donald Ross claimed that he always thought back to his upbringing on Dornoch Links when inspired to design courses such as Pinehurst No 2. Dornoch is at its most beautiful in May/June when the gorse covered hills are a blaze of yellow bloom. Dornoch is an absolute gem of a links that is well worth the journey north.

Royal Aberdeen, whose links at Balgownie consist of superbly rolling duneland is ranked as the 6th oldest club in the world. On the northern outskirts of the city of Aberdeen it is typical of the old style links layout, running out to a distant point along a thin channel two holes wide. On playing Royal Aberdeen Bernard Darwin once described it by saying " much more than good golf but a noble links".

Cruden Bay, ranked number 3 in Golf World's top 100 Courses in the British Isles, Cruden Bay has pedigree. Cruden Bay has never earned its full championship recognition but over the years earned respect and admiration from many. Pete Dye considers Cruden Bay as his favourite in Scotland.

Other great courses in the area:- Nairn Golf Club, Murcar Golf Club, Moray Golf Club.
